Indigo Color Transfer | Information & Policy
Color transfer is completely normal, especially when your jeans are brand new. It is very common with indigo-dyed denim, which gives your jeans their rich and deep color.
What causes color transfer?
During the dyeing process, denim is treated with color to achieve the perfect blue, black, or grey shade. Some of the dye goes deep into the fabric, while a small amount stays on the surface.
When you wear your jeans, especially before the first few washes, some color may transfer to lighter fabrics and surfaces.
How to reduce color transfer
- Use a small amount of mild detergent made for dark clothing.
- Avoid wearing dark denim with light-colored accessories, especially when the jeans are new.
- Be extra careful when your jeans are wet, as moisture can increase color transfer.
Items most likely to be affected
To help protect your belongings, please be aware that color transfer is most likely to affect:
- Light-colored bags and wallets
- White sneakers and shoes
- Light-colored furniture, sofas, and car seats
- Other clothing, especially white or light-colored fabrics
Is this a defect?
No. Color transfer is a natural characteristic of dark and untreated denim. It does not mean that your jeans are defective. The effect will become less noticeable over time with washing and regular wear.
Our color transfer policy
Color transfer is a normal and expected characteristic of dark denim, especially indigo denim. Because of this, we cannot offer refunds or exchanges for items affected by color transfer.
We are also not responsible for cleaning or dry-cleaning costs caused by color transfer to clothing, furniture, shoes, or accessories.
Following the care instructions below will help keep your jeans looking great and reduce the risk of stains on lighter items.
Washing & Care Instructions
Washing
- Turn your jeans inside out before washing.
- Wash the jeans separately for the first wash.
- Use only a small amount of detergent (30–40 ml).
- Wash cold (maximum 30°C / 86°F).
- Use a delicate or easy-care cycle (600–800 rpm).
Drying
- Do not tumble dry.
- Heat can shrink denim and damage the fabric.
- Air dry instead, preferably flat or on a hanger.
- Do not dry in direct sunlight, as this can cause uneven fading.
Additional Care Tips
- If your jeans are not dirty, you can place them in the freezer to remove odors and avoid unnecessary washing.
- Use only a small amount of detergent. Too much detergent can remove color and make the fabric feel rough.
- Hand washing in a bathtub or bucket with cold or lukewarm water is a gentle option.
- Do not use bleach.
- Do not soak the jeans for long periods.
- Since the jeans are made from cotton, slight shrinkage after washing is normal.
- While the jeans are still damp, gently stretch them to your preferred length and width.
